FAQ:

  • Join the WAITLIST to be notified immediately if a spot opens up.

Prefer not to wait? These workshops are also available as a PRIVATE WORKSHOP for 1–6 people.

Cool with waiting for the next batch of public classes? We release a new batch of workshops once a quarter. We always let newsletter subscribers know first. Signing up for the newsletter is the best way to get your hands on tickets before anyone else.

  • Let us know immediately. Tickets are non-refundable, but can be transferred. We typically have a long list of waitlisters who would love your ticket.

  • Of course!

You are always welcome to buy a ticket for someone else. At checkout we will give you an option to add their contact information. Adding their info will ensure that they get all of the important notifications about class.

    We sell GIFT CERTIFICATEs

Gift certificates can be purchased for a specific service, but may be applied toward any service, including private lessons or parties.

  • Each Make + Take workshop focuses on a specific project. You’ll leave with a finished piece YOU make during class. There will be opportunities to customize details such as size, texture, stamping, and finish within the scope of the project.

Want to make something completely custom? Check out our private lesson option.

  • We’ve got all of your tools and materials, but there are a few things you can do to make sure you are prepared.

    • Bring a good attitude. Metalsmithing takes patience, and learning often includes surprises. Your final piece may look different than you imagined, and that’s part of the experience.

    • In regard to clothing, please wear something comfortable. You need to be able to move without restriction.

    • Long hair, scarves, and dangly bits on clothes need to be kept in check. Hair should be off the face and preferably in a ponytail.

    • If you like using glasses to see small things, please be sure to bring those.

  • Make + Take workshops are a great introduction to the studio, tools, and processes used in metalsmithing. For those looking for a more comprehensive foundation, we highly recommend our Beginning Metalsmithing for Jewelry workshop. This 10-hour course covers the core skills needed to create hand-fabricated jewelry.

  • Workshops are designed for ALL experience levels, but are geared toward adults, and participants are expected to be 14+.

We can and have accommodated younger smiths on a case by case basis. Please contact us if you’re interested in having a kid or group of kiddos participate in a workshop or lesson.

  • Our studio is located on the 7th floor of the Livestock Exchange Building. It is a 9 story red brick building in Kansas City’s historical West Bottoms neighborhood.

There is a ton of free street parking, 2-3 free surface lots, and even a ticketed parking garage, BUT the one way streets can make it a bit tricky to get around. If you have never been to the building before its a good idea to add a few extra minutes to your drive time.

We recommend that you use the street level lot behind the building, follow the brick path to the black unmarked double doors, and take the elevators to the 7th floor.

  • Enjoy the class in whatever way feels right to you. Take lots of photos and videos, or none at all. Instructors will also snap a few moments along the way, and you’ll receive a Google Drive link with those images after class.

Whether you captured it or we did, feel free to share on social media. We love seeing what you make. Tag us @alloy_metalsmithing so we can cheer you on.

SOME OF THE LOVELY THINGS OUR STUDENTS SAY ABOUT CLASS:

  • "MY FAVORITE PART WAS HAVING THE ABILITY TO CREATE A 100% CUSTOMIZED AND UNIQUE PIECE WITH QUALITY MATERIALS AND LEARNING THE TECHNIQUE AND TIME THAT GOES INTO EACH OF THESE PIECES."

    Allegra K.

  • “I wear my ring from Kelly’s ring workshop all the time and every time I look at it I think about how proud I am that I made it and how much satisfaction I get from wearing something I created. I feel like it serves as kind of a reminder of what I’m capable of — and I think with everything that’s going on, we women need all the reminders of that that we can get!”

    Ashley C.

  • "IT WAS GREAT GETTING TO BE SO HANDS-ON AND INVOLVED IN CREATING A UNIQUE PIECE OF JEWELRY - IN A POSITIVE AND ENCOURAGING ENVIRONMENT!"

    Amy W.

  • "I was so proud that what I envisioned looked really amazing. These ladies at MeritMade are great at helping bring your vision to a stunning ring I am proud to wear ... and brag that I made it."

    Kimberly P.

  • "I really didn't think I'd be able to make a ring I love, but with Kelly & Terra's help, I did!"

    Amy S.

  • "So Rewarding. I can now say that I've soldered and been a human bandsaw, so that's fun."

    Stephanie D.

  • "IT WAS REALLY ALL GREAT: SPACE WAS REALLY INTERESTING, REFRESHMENTS WERE GREAT, LOTS OF STONES TO CHOOSE FROM, AND SO MANY OPTIONS FOR DESIGN."

    Jennifer K.

  • "LET ME KNOW WHEN YOUR NEXT CLASS IS. I’M SIGNING UP AND SO ARE A FEW OF MY FRIENDS!"

    Jamie C.
