Class Size: 12 People

If you’ve been stockpiling silver off-cuts, failed castings, old components, and bench scraps, this is your sign to turn that pile into usable material again. With silver prices rising fast and the entire industry talking about it, learning how to recycle your own metal has never been more relevant.

This demonstration will walk you through a practical workflow for sorting, melting, annealing, rolling, and drawing scrap silver into clean sheet and wire you can confidently use in future projects.

Reasons to take this class:

  • Scrap processing facilities are overwhelmed, and many are not accepting silver scrap

  • Reduce waste at the bench

  • Use the metal you already own

  • Build confidence working with your own material

Skills you’ll gain knowledge on:

  • Scrap evaluation + prep (what to keep, what to avoid, how to sort)

  • Melting scrap and creating an ingot

  • Annealing (when and why, throughout the process)

  • Milling and drawing silver into workable sheet and wire

Tools: Torch, Ingot Mold(s), Rolling Mill, Draw Bench + Draw Plates

If the class is sold out, you can’t make the scheduled time, or you’d prefer a hands-on option, book a 1-hour private lesson instead.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR, KELLY:

I’ve always loved making and creating things, and once I found metalsmithing in college, I was hooked. For me it is the perfect combination of creativity and science. I graduated with a BFA in metalsmithing from KU in 2003 and spent 2 years apprenticing as a bench jeweler at Kizer Cummings Jewelry. The combination of school learning and hands-on training in a jewelry store has given me a solid base of skills and knowledge from which I have built my own career in metalsmithing, as MeritMade. I look super forward to having you in class and sharing my love of metalsmithing with you.
